Hustle n' Tussle

Dance Battle Manager

Created by Kenji Tominaga, HNT is a street dance-formatted hustle battle event with a mission to get dancers comfortable beyond social environments, learn to groove to various genres with different partners, and provide consistent opportunities for dancers to grow.

We host Jack & Jill and 7 to Smoke style battles for NewStyle, Classic, and Latin Hustle dancers. Represent your hustle style and step out of your comfort zone!

7 to Smoke Battle Rules

Battle Style

  • Leaders and followers line up separately; the first 2 from each side enter the battle
  • 1 round face to face, 1 min each, 1 song
  • Leader and follower are separately judged
  • Winners earn 1 point per round, accumulated through the season
  • Winning leader and follower stay in the round until they lose
  • Dancers winning 7 rounds straight will be the winner
  • The battle ends in 60 min if no one wins 7 rounds straight

Judging

  • Judges will be guest judges + random judges from the contestants
  • Criteria: Connection, Technique, Musicality, Expression/Spirit
  • Participant judges switch each round

Special Outcomes

  • Tie: no points awarded; the tied dancers face each other again next round
  • No Contest: no points; previous dancers return to the queue and fresh opponents are selected

How It Works

Upload a previously downloaded battle .json file to view its results.

Expected File Format

A Hustle n' Tussle battle export (a .json file). It records:

  • The battle champions for leads and follows (and how each was decided)
  • Every dancer's final points and placement
  • The full round-by-round history: pairs, winners, judge votes, and songs

Note: the file must be a .json generated by the "Download Battle Data" feature. (Older .xlsx exports are no longer supported.)

Competition Setup

Uncheck to keep contestants in the order entered.

Turn off to use guest judges only.

Leave blank to use the default: 1 more than the number of guest judges.

First contestant to reach 7 points wins.

Link a Spotify playlist to automatically assign songs to each round.
